So, I think I’ve decided I shouldn’t be afraid of The Skinny Jean. I am not quite ready for a pair of colored jeans, but skinny I can do.
I’m also going to look for a pair of beautiful, comfortable tall boots to pair with them. Like the Steve Madden Candence:
After all, I can hide my not-so-skinny thighs and the little extra hip action I’ve developed over the last couple of years with a long sweater. It also might be nice to acknowledge that it is, in fact, 2012.
I was thinking something like this would be nice:
I am inspired by Jo-Lynne, over at Musings of a Housewife (she’s always posting about fashion), and my recent shopping trip with a few other moms. I may not wear the Mom Jean, but I have definitely let myself fall into a rut of wearing what I call my “uniform”. This consists of a) in the winter: long sleeve t-shirt, jeans, flats and b) in the summer: t-shirt or tank, shorts, and flip-flops.
It’s pretty bad, my friends. Since my latest shopping spree, I have worn a few of my new items: a long, fitted, navy sweater (worn over jeans with my new adorable and comfy Aerosole slides, see below), and a loose, long sweater over black tights (worn with flats). I got several compliments at school drop-off. This says two things: I have awesome friends and my normal attire is so boring it’s highly noticeable when I change it up.
So, I am bound and determined to make some changes. Slowly, but surely I am going to add some classic wardrobe staples that will allow me to feel like a woman as well as a mom. Booyah! Wait, did I really just type that? I meant … fist pump!
Ok, maybe I just mean … YAY! Permission to spend a little time and money on myself? Granted. I knew 2012 was going to be a good year, and it’s only February.

YAY for shopping! LOL. You did good. I love the new pieces you describe. And skinny jeans really aren’t as scary as they sound. You can balance out any hip action with boots and a longish sweater.
Yes, Jo-Lynne, you’re so right. And, I love the look of leggings or skinny jeans and a long sweater with boots. My husband even commented yesterday that he liked my outfit. Usually he likes things a little more form fitting, so I was surprised. He said “I guess because it’s different!” LOL. If even HE is commenting on my new clothes, I must be on to something!
oh let me know if you find a good pair of skinny jeans. i have been wearing the same pair all winter!
Nessa, where did you find yours? I’m going to look at Jcrew … their clothes tend to fit me well. I’m also going to read a bit and see what other people like. With three little ones, I don’t often have time to do a lot of leisure shopping! So glad you found me here!
Your mom uniform sounds like mine! And randomly I JUST branched out to a pair of skinny jeans last week. Great minds think alike??
Yes! So, where did you get yours? I’m trying to square away some time to get to Marshalls or TJ Maxx (I’ve heard to look there). However, there is NO WAY I’m going to shop there with kids. I can’t wait!!
